Burst main cuts water to city wards

By Chevy Devonish and Javon Vickerie Residents of several wards of the city were left without water from about 10 am yesterday after a main located between Cummings and Light streets, on Church Street, ruptured around 4 pm on Saturday.

In light of Trinidad last week opening a criminal investigation of former CLICO executives and several corporate entities aligned to the collapsed insurance giant, AFC leader, Khemraj Ramjattan says that the government should be held to a pledge by former President Bharrat Jagdeo to initiate a probe into CLICO’s local operations prior to its collapse.

By Iva Wharton Paul DeNobrega, in a time of 2:2:18s yesterday won the Diamond Mineral Water 50-mile road on the West Bank of Demerara, The race started at the Demerara Harbour Bridge and the cyclists proceeded to Bushy Park, Parika before returning to finish at the Harbour Bridge.

The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) on Friday handed over a cheque for $1.9 million to Merundoi Incorporated, to assist in sponsorship of the Radio Serial Drama “Merundoi” and administrative expenses of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), which specialises in behaviour change communication.

Traffic cops should be humane

Dear Editor, Whenever there is an increase in traffic fines, the traffic cops reap the benefit: no one likes to be asked to “drive to the station” for simple human infractions such as driving two points over the speed limit, driving over an already dead animal on the road, reversing on the road from a residential gap even though it is safe to do so, driving through an amber light  when it came on about a second ago, etc.
