The Region 1 administration has still not utilized 300 electricity meters which were purchased in June, 2003, according to the 2011 report of the Office of the Auditor General.
In Its discussion of prior-year matters in the Barima/Waini region, the report said that the regional administration had still not utilized 300 meters procured in 2003 to facilitate power supply to residents. At the time of the audit in May, 2012, the meters were sitting in the Region’s stores, the report said.
When asked by the auditors about this, the region said that the meters had been earmarked for installation at Wauna but that the “residences are not certified to be connected and the residents are not willing to take the necessary action to be certified”. The region said that as a result it planned to utilize the meters in Matthew’s Ridge where a new project had started.
The audit office recommended that the regional administration ensure that the meters are installed as soon as possible.
