Paul DeNobrega, in a time of 2:2:18s yesterday won the Diamond Mineral Water 50-mile road on the West Bank of Demerara,
The race started at the Demerara Harbour Bridge and the cyclists proceeded to Bushy Park, Parika before returning to finish at the Harbour Bridge.
Along with the championship trophy, DeNobrega won six of the eight prime prizes along the route. Second was Akeem Wilson and he also captured the remaining two prime prizes.
Christopher Hochan, Raynauth Jeffrey and Robin Persaud, occupied the next three places.
DeNobrega was also the winner of the junior category with Raul Leal and Akeem Wilson, second and third respectively.
In the boys and girls’ open event Alfie Sonaram won from Jason Jordan while Julio Melville won upright cyclist category.
Junior Niles, Kennard Lovell and Esau O’Selmo took the first three places in the veterans under 50 years old race while Walter Isaacs was the winner of the veterans over 60 years.
Organiser of the race and national cycling coach Hassan Mohamed said he was pleased with turn out for the final race of the year. According to Mohamed, this is the 13th year that DDL has been sponsoring this race for which he is pleased.
DDL’s Sales Manager, Alexis Langhorne, thanked the cyclists for braving the weather.
“The Company will always do whatever it can do to promote sports in Guyana. I know that cycling is a very small sport but nevertheless we will continue to sponsor you in whatever way we can,” she stated.
