An eight-member swimming team has been selected by the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) to participate in the South American Sport Council (CONSUDE) School Games to be held in Brazil from November 28 to December 6.
Secretary of GASA, Dee George, when contacted by Stabroek Sport, confirmed that Onika George, Accalia Khan, Nikita Fiedtkou, Kevin Dare, Dylan Nurse, Phillip DeNobrega and Daniel Scott have all been selected to participate at the continental event, which is expected to involve the participation of students from many, if not all, of the South American countries.
George will manage the team while a male representative and coach to accompany the swimmers have yet to be decided upon.
The team will depart Guyana for the games on November 27.
The swimmers are expected to be joined by representatives from table tennis, chess, athletics, volleyball, basketball and football (Futsal) disciplines.
Guyana’s delegation, according to DR. Karen Pilgrim is expected to number over 100 persons for their inaugural performance at the games.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport will fund the entire venture. Guyana attendance at the games will help to develop bilateral ties with Brazil.
The event, held annually for students between the ages 12 – 14 is organised by the South American Council (CONSUDE) and has been held for 17 years.
