Ardent golfer Patrick Prashad will be the third player to have his name inscribed on the winners’ board following victory in the Annual Players Championship sponsored by Citizens Bank and played last Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Club, East Coast Demerara.
Prashad was on fire in the one-day Medal Play competition shooting a net 64 from a gross of 72 playing off an eight handicap to secure a comfortable win.
Mark Lashley, who played in the same group with Prashad, was second after he shot a net 67 from a gross 88 playing off a 21 handicap.
Fazil Haniff copped third position with a net of 68 from a gross of 78 and a handicap of 10. Nearest to the Pin was LGC President Jerome Khan while Christine Sukhram, competing in the female section was rewarded for her effort.
Thirty five players took part in the tournament which coincided with Citizens Bank Guyana Incorporated’s 18th anniversary.
Legal Officer of the Bank, Natasha Vieira, presented the winning prize to Prashad while Nasiah Hadmon, Customer Service representative spoke on behalf of the sponsor.
Hadmon congratulated the players who participated in the tournament and lauded the executives of the Lusignan Golf Club for their continued promotion of sport locally.
Khan thanked Citizens Bank for its foresight in organizing the Players Championship, one of the leading tournaments on the local golf calendar.
Chairman of the Bank, Clifford Reis, who competed in the tournament, was also on hand to witness the presentation of prizes.
The two previous winners of the Players Championship were Mohanlall “Santo” Dinnanauth who won the inaugural tournament and Andre Cummings, the 2011 winner.
Laila Farley, the Banks Credit Officer, also assisted in the presentation of prizes.
