The country has four more dental surgeons with the recent graduation of Sulan Fung, Rehana Ali, Simone Brady and Zoe Perreira from the University of Guyana’s Dentistry Programme.
The addition of the new dentists is satisfying, Minister of Health Dr Bheri Ramsaran said at a recent ceremony at the Pegasus Hotel, at Kingston, to mark their induction, according to the Govern-ment Information Agency (GINA).
Ramsaran, GINA said, noted the support offered to the dentists from the Centres of Excellence overseas and he challenged the dentists to share their knowledge and skills with others. He added that 40 others who are training will ensure that Guyana can sustain its dental manpower, while assuring that the government will continue to make available necessary equipment.
According to GINA, this achievement is a reflection of the efforts by the ministry to continuously promote medical training in a number of fields, which aids the creation of a strong cadre of medical professionals.
Ramsaran also said the government has made significant investment in maintaining and upgrading health care facilities around the country and as a result the new dentists should be willing to use their knowledge and skills for the benefit of all Guyanese, regardless of their location.
Meanwhile, GINA reported that Director of the School of Dentistry Dr. Shameer Ali and Dean of the Health Sciences faculty Dr. Emanuel Cummings shared similar views as the minister while emphasising the successful of the medical programme and their hope that the dental programme follows suit.
