The Inter-ward seven-a-side football tournament in honour of Georgetown Mayor Hamilton Green’s 78 birth anniversary is expected to get underway from 5pm this evening at the Den Amstel ground.
The competition was scheduled to commence on Saturday, one day after Green’s birthday, but had to be rescheduled organizer Lennox Arthur told Stabroek Sport recently.
The winning team is expected to receive $200,000 with $100,000 going to the runners-up.
The New Thriving Restaurant, MACORP, Busta, Nazar Mohamed, Eddie Grant, Chris Fernandes, Patrick ‘Labba’ Barton, Dr. Colin Watson, Tent City, Courtney Benn, BK International, General Equipment and Muneshwar’s have all assisted in sponsoring the tournament while former colonel of the Guyana Defence Force Larry London has donated a quantity of balls to Arthur.
In tonight’s matches, Bourda will oppose; Kuru Kuru play East Ruimveldt; Wales come up against Eve Leary; Bagotville will tackle Thomas Lands; Goed Fortuin (Beavers) will; match skills with Mocha; Sara Lodge (Eagles) will oppose Tiger Bay; Plastic City (Jetty) come up against North East La Penitence; Crane (Seawall) tackles Kingston; Pouderoyen (Young Achievers) plays Kitty; Stewartville will play Alberttown; Uitvlugt will tackle Sophia and Den Amstel will clash with Newtown Kitty.
