Richard Williamson stands a good chance of putting up his hands in victory when he faces Randolph Fraser on the Guyana Fight Night Pro Am Card organized by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, November 30th. That is according to his coach, Orlan ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers.
Williamson and Fraser are expected to fight in the featherweight category over six rounds.
Rogers said Williamson is a talented fighter who has proven himself twice as a profession fighter. However overconfidence played a part in his disqualification when he fought Charlton Skeet in his second fight as a professional. He won his first fight against Delon Allicock when he made his debut as a professional fighter. Because Fraser is a seasoned campaigner they are also working on a few new strategies that should allow Williamson to cope in the ring. Fraser he said is heavier than Williamson and as such they need to devise ways of working around his weight.
“He will do extremely well in the end of the bout; he will be the one that will weather the storm. He (Williamson) is taking this fight very seriously because Fraser is not just an ordinary fighter, he has experience in the ring, but he is prepared to go out and fight.”
Rogers said Williamson has been with him for the past seven years and has shown tremendous improvement throughout that period. Williamson, he said, has over 60 amateur fights with over 40 wins at the same level. Now that he has made his transition professional boxing, he has the potential to become a champion.
Other fights on the card are: Imran ‘Magic’ Khan facing Aaron Cumberbatch – Bantamweight, Laured Steward and Leon Nottingham – Welterweight, Stephon Gouveia and Michael Alexander – Lightweight and Eon Bancroft clashing with Declan Calliste – Middleweight all amateur fights.
Professional: Kishaun Simon and Patrick Boston – Catch weight, Gladwin Dorway and Cassius Matthews – Junior Welterweight, and main event Iwan ‘Pure Gold’ Azore and Mark Austin – Welterweight.
Azore will be defending his Guyana Welterweight title.
