One person is still in police custody over the murder of Rose Hall Town teenager Ajai Cecil Sookhoo.
According to the deceased’s father Chanderbose Sookhoo, a post-mortem examination is expected to be performed this morning at the New Amsterdam public hospital. The father had also said that about four months ago his son was threatened by the prime suspect that he would kill him. The threat was made to Ajai Cecil Sookhoo after he had approached the man and asked why he had chopped a younger relative.
Stabroek News also learnt that the prime suspect knows the family well and during his younger days he used to spend time with the family. The father added that it hurt him to know that a person who knows the family would have done something so heartbreaking.
The prime suspect is said to be a deportee from the USA had returned to Guyana some years ago.
Ajai Cecil Sookhoo was returning home from a fun day held at the “Area H” Ground, Rose Hall Town along with a cousin, when he was attacked in the vicinity of New Market Street, Rose Hall Town.
The man had walked up from behind and grabbed Ajai’s gold chain and then stabbed him to the throat. The man and others had returned and snatched the gold hand band he was also wearing.
The cousin called his father, who subsequently rushed his bleeding son to the Port Mourant Hospital, only to find the gates closed and no security officer present. He called out several times but no one answered and he then decided to go to the New Amsterdam Hospital. When he and the boy’s mother arrived with their son at the hospital he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased teen leaves to mourn his eight months’ pregnant wife, father, mother and three sisters along with other family and friends.
