A minibus conductor, who addressed another man using a gay slur, was yesterday fined $10,000 by Magistrate Judy Latchman after he pleaded guilty to an abusive language charge.
Sean Jones, 19, of Lot 42 Fourth Street, Campbellville, was at the Stabroek Market area when he was approached by complainant Akeem Hodge, who he abused verbally using the slur. Hodge reported the matter to the police outpost at Stabroek Market and Jones was arrested and charged.
Jones told Magistrate Latchman, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, that Hodge made romantic advances towards him on a number on occasions.
“So de day, I tell he that me ain’t in fah man and he went to the station and couple minutes after police come for me,” Jones said.
After careful consideration, Magistrate Latchman fined Jones $10,000 with an alternative of seven days imprisonment.
