A 16-year-old girl was fatally stabbed last night at her Kumaka, Region One home by a man who later hung himself.
Zaleena Shaddick also called ‘Bibi’ died at around 6 this morning as she was being air-dashed to the city.
Ronnie Ramitt Jnr killed himself hours after he had launched the vicious attack on the teenager at around 8:30 last night. He used the rope of someone’s hammock to kill himself in a Hosororo yard. Shaddick had rejected Ramitt’s advances.
Reports reaching this newspaper indicated that the teenager was in the bottom flat of her home when the young man jumped the fence into the yard. She went out to speak to him and he stabbed her viciously and then made his escape. She was rushed to the Mabaruma Hospital with a cut to her neck which partly severed her wind pipe and another to her stomach.
Doctors and nurses at the hospital managed to stabilize her but their frantic search for an aircraft to medivac her to the city were futile. While Wings for Humanity’s plane was available, the aircraft cannot fly in the night and as result it was only at around 6 this morning they left with her but returned shortly after as she had succumbed.
Stabroek News was told that the two were not in a relationship but that the man was obsessed with the girl.
