-Hadi’s World Incorporated first division two-day competition

Rain last weekend marred the first round of the inaugural Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Hadi’s World Incorporated first division two day cricket competition which saw three centuries being scored on the first day but finished with two draws because of the weather.
At Thomas Lands in a game delayed by rain, the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) batted first and posted 252-5 declared from 60 overs with openers
Jeetendra Sookdeo and Robin Bacchus putting on 98 before Orin Forde had Bacchus lbw for 53 from just 67 balls. Bacchus hit six fours and two sixes.
Wasim Haslim and Sookdeo took the score to 148, a partnership of 50, before Haslim was dismissed by leg spinner Danny Narayan for 34 from 46 balls with five fours while skipper Leon Johnson was bowled for seven by Carlos La Rose with the score on 185.
Sookdeo scored 108 from 204 deliveries with 10 fours and was at the crease along with Gavin Singh when GCC declared.
Malteenoes began the second day’s play, which also started late, on 19 without loss and lost their first wicket at 32 when Kwame Crosse going hit wicket to Chidanand Shivram.
Malteenoes were soon tottering at 6 for 105, as Shivram picked up three more wickets, while Joshua Wade removed Danny Narayan and Raj Nannan had skipper Orin Forde caught behind.
When Nannan picked up the final two wickets Deon Ferrier was left not out on 49 from 62 deliveries with seven fours as Malteenoes closed on 9 for 153. The number 11 batsman Benedict Prince failed to turn up at the venue. Shivram finished with 4 for 42, Nannan 3 for 25 while wicketkeeper Gavin Charles successfully completed six catches behind the wicket.
The opening pair of Winston Forrester and Wasim Haslim enjoyed six overs of bowling, strolling to 43 without loss before the game ended in a draw. Haslim was particularly aggressive in his 37 with five fours and one maximum, while Forrester remained not out on 10.
At Eve Leary, Police racked up 6 for 376 declared. Pernell London hit 120 not out and Ryan Rajmanjal scored 109 while Reginald Rodrigues made 85.
In reply, the Gandhi Youth Organization resumed on the second day at 2 for 29 but fell short on first innings honours falling for a paltry 160.
Wazir Mohamed 37 not out and Pravindralall Persaud 31 were the top scorers. Bowling for Police Vishal Jaigobin took 4 for 41 and London followed up his century by taking 3 for 37.
Police, batting a second time reached 174-7. Rajmangal carried on his good form by making 61 while Shameer Fazal scored 28. Pravindralall Persaud took 3 for 48. The match ended in a draw with Police taking first innings points after securing a lead of 390 runs.
