Three persons were arrested in connection with the fire that gutted the Bartica Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) office, which is suspected to be the work of arsonists.
The fire apparently started towards the back of the building last Friday evening, but a quick response from the fire service saved the building from being razed. Documents inside the building were burnt, while some were destroyed by water.
Stabroek News was told that three persons were arrested earlier in the week, before being released. One was let go on his own recognisance while the remaining two were released on station bail.
A source had told this newspaper that a security guard at the building next to the NDC office was making checks in his compound when he noticed fire. The guard then informed his manager, who called the fire service. When fire-fighters arrived at the scene, the fire had already spread to other parts of the NDC building but they managed to contain it.
