The four persons injured in Wednesday’s fatal Puruni Backdam accident are now at a private city hospital for treatment.
The survivors of the accident that claimed the life of Wayne Samuels, of Timehri, were transferred from the Bartica Hospital on Wednesday night, a source told this newspaper yesterday.
Police yesterday said they were investigating the accident and that the driver of the pick-up was in custody assisting with the investigations.
Police said in a release that the accident occurred at about 4:45pm on the Lion Mountain Trail, at Puruni, after the driver of motor pick-up GPP 3038 lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn, when the vehicle’s tray swayed. Food was being transported in the tray of the vehicle, where Samuels and Frederick Stephens, 45, of 10th Avenue, Bartica, were also positioned. They fell out and sustained injuries about their bodies, police added.
They were both taken to the Bartica Hospital, where Samuels was pronounced dead on arrival, while Stephens was admitted a patient.
