A 15-year-old boy and two other persons yesterday appeared before Magistrate Khrisndat Persaud at the Springlands Magistrate’s court over the shooting of a taxi driver.
The 15-year-old (who cannot be named for legal reasons), Doodraj Dass, 20, a salesman of Rampoor Street, Springlands and Azam Bacchus, 17, a labourer of 76 housing scheme were charged with attempted murder and robbery under arms on Corentyne taxi driver, Jermaine Rover.
The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the virtual complainant is still hospitalized in the ICU at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, the nature of the crime committed and because of the extreme violence used in the offence.
Meanwhile, the 15-year-old was charged separately over possession of a firearm. A .38 revolver was found at Springlands, Corentyne.
The 15-year-old pleaded not guilty to charge. Bail was refused and he was remanded to prison.
The parties are expected to return to court on the 6th of December 2012 for a report on all the offences.
The case is prosecuted by police corporal Althea Solomon.
On the 11 November 2012 around 6 pm, Rover was hired by several men to go with them and collect some Heineken beer at the old rice mill compound in Moleson creek. Whilst going with the 3 accused, the driver was compelled to stop by the 15-year-old. The three boys left the car and went into the rice mill. Five minutes after, the 15-year-oldreturned and told Rover to `take off the car lights’ which he did. The 15-year-old then pulled a gun from his waist and allegedly shot Rover to his face and his right shoulder. The two other accomplices assisted the 15-year-old to place Rover on the road, after which they drove away. Rover at the time had in his possession $54000 GYD, $200 USD, two cellular phones worth $84000 and a digital camera worth $50000GYD.
