The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Noble House Seafoods sponsored second division cricket competition continues today and tomorrow with five matches key amongst them the Zone A clash between Third Class and the Police Sports Club team at Eve Leary.
Third Class remain strong contenders to finish in the top two with consistent performances so far including an outright win over the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC).
All rounders Andre O’Neal and Alvin Castello have been consistent for Third Class while left hand spinner Ray Bryan has consistently been among the wickets. Most recently, batsman Randy Ramroop stepped up with a century. Police secured an outright victory in their last match when they demolished Ace Warriors but the Third Class team is expected to provide a much more stern challenge.
In the other Zone A matches, Transport Sports Club play the Vikings at the Muslim Youth Organization ground and Ace Warriors face a tough test when they come up against GNIC at GNIC at its Woolford Avenue venue.
In Zone B, a closely contested match can be expected when the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) visits the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC). GDF battled with the University of Guyana for supremacy recently in a game which ended in a draw although UG won first innings points. GDF will be keen for an outright win over DCC, who will be confident in home conditions. With their successes at the youth level, DCC’s younger players can be expected to be under the microscope.
Players such as Cavell Reece, Dexter George, Orlando Sturge and Jahron Byron, who recently scored a century at GYO, will be looking to add to their recent good record. George and Byron helped DCC skittle Malteenoes Sports Club for just 29 when the teams played last weekend while Sturge has partnered Totaram Bishun as DCC’s spinners at the first division level. In the other Zone B match up Gandhi Youth Organization face the University of Guyana at the GYO ground.
