Suspect in Blankenburg murder released for want of evidence

As investigations continue into the murder of Muneer Hussain, the Canada-based Guyanese found partially naked on the Blankenburg seawall on October 22, police say that the suspect who had been apprehended in relation to the murder was released due to a lack of evidence tying him to the crime.

According to reports, the police stated that following several leads, they discovered that a particular “junkie” was present in the yard that Hussain had visited to change some foreign currency the same day he was found dead.

The man was therefore apprehended as it was believed that he may have been connected with the crime.

However, after questioning the man, they concluded that there was not enough evidence to suggest that he was involved and released him.

Police also said that though Hussain’s money was missing, they are unable to determine the motive for the crime, and that there is currently no new information.

Hussain, who left his home around 9.30 am on October 22 to exercise on the Blankenburg seawall, was found face down in a shallow pool of water by family members who went in search of him after he failed to return home.

He had been on vacation in Guyana, visiting his family for less than two weeks when he died.
