Local football referees are attending a FIFA Referee Assistance Programme which got underway last Friday at Georgetown Club.
The programme which is being conducted by Jamaican Peter Pendergast, FIFA Referees Instructor and Development Officer and FIFA Fitness Instructor Allan Morgan of Costa Rica has attracted referees from Georgetown, West Demerara, Linden, Berbice and East Coast Demerara.
Local instructors Lawrence “Sparrow” Griffith, Colin “BL” Aaron, Lindley Lindley Langhorne and Roy McArthur are also assisting in the programme.
Local accredited FIFA referees and assistant referees as well as budding officials were chosen to attend the programme which serves to develop the referees competence on the field of play.
There will be classroom and outdoor sessions.
Reports indicated that kits for the programme were unavailable as Guyana Football Federation (GFF) officials were unable to secure the necessary duty-free concession to have them cleared by customs. Pendergast conducted a similar programme last year at the International Convention Centre at Lillendaal, East Coast Demerara.
