The contract for the construction of the base of the 1823 Monument has been awarded to Nabi Construction and the contract was recently handed over by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, the Government Information Agency reported on Saturday
The base for the 1823 monument and the garden for the accommodation of the monument will be located on Carifesta Avenue opposite the Guyana Defence Force ground. The cost for this project is over $26M, GINA said.
The 1823 Monument was sculpted by Ivor Thom after he had won the free and open competition organised by the Ministry of Culture. The monument recognizes the August 1823 revolt by slaves.
