Albouystown resident Sean Peters, 28, who stole a haversack with items valued over $200,000, was yesterday sentenced to a one-year jail term after pleading guilty to larceny.
Peters, 28, said to be a labourer, admitted at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court that he stole a haversack, which contained a laptop and other devices, totalling $238,500 in value, and belonging to David Sullivan.
He committed the offence on November 14 in Georgetown.
Prosecutor Seon Blackman stated that Sullivan was on his way to work when Peters approached him from behind, grabbed his haversack and tried to run away.
Blackman added that an alarm was raised and public-spirited citizens seized Peters, who was later arrested and charged with the offence of simple larceny.
When given the opportunity to address the court, Peters said that he had nothing to say.
