The body of a 29-year-old fisherman was this morning discovered in a drain with what appeared to be a laceration to the head.
Lakeram Parsram, of Sheriga, Enmore North, East Coast Demerara, was found around 6:20 am, a short distance away from his home, neatly fitted in a drain aback a Mechanic Shop.
Stabroek News visited the scene today and spoke to the owner of the Mechanic Shop, Shafeez Salim Ali, who stated that one of his workmen, after opening the back gate, discovered the body.
“Them man open the gate deh and see a hat… Is when they go to pick up the hat they see de man in de drain,” the man said.
Ali stated that the man was turned face down in the drain and appeared to be a “fresh dead”.
The dead man’s brother, Chaitnarine Parsram, who later visited the scene, said he did not believe his brother fell into the drain as was suggested by some onlookers. “His face was down and he was about 5″4 so his legs was turned upwards… He couldn’t fall because he woulda try to break his fall but his arms were straight to his side,” the man’s brother relayed to this newspaper.
The parents of the young man are assisting the police with investigations and this newspaper understands that no arrest has yet been made.
The body is at the Lyken Funeral Home.
