Salim Bacchus called ‘Black Salim’, who was wanted for questioning by the police, yesterday turned himself in accompanied by his lawyer Ramesh Rajkumar.
Bacchus was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of Police Constable 20682 Jirbahan Dianand on September 14, 2012. He is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Dianand, 23, a detective constable, was found murdered in an execution-style killing at Jackson Creek, Corentyne.
An autopsy revealed that he was shot twice —to the forehead and below his left ear.
Commissioner of Police Leroy Brumell had told this newspaper that from all indications, Dianand knew his killer, pointing out that the car was stopped on the lonely roadway.
Bacchus made headlines in November last year after he and several others were charged in relation to an 82-pound cocaine bust at Skeldon.
In May this year, he was the last to be freed.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, hours after his release, appealed the dismissal.
It is unclear what has become of that appeal.
In September, Police had issued a bulletin for another man wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of Constable Dianand
Police said Mool Persaud Maniram c/d “Rakesh” was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder.
In recent months, the police have come under severe criticism for putting out wanted bulletins for persons in high-profile murder cases and then releasing them.
