The People’s Progressive Party yesterday held a picketing exercise outside the United States Embassy in Georgetown to show solidarity with the Palestinian people in the wake of the Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.
A PPP release said that among other groups represented were the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana, the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Association and the Guyana Rice Producers Association.
The release said that the grouping was unanimous in its calls for the immediate cessation of violence against the Palestinian people in Gaza by Israel.
“A call was also made for the United States of America and the European Union to make a more concerted effort to halt the military campaign of large scale bombings of the Palestinian people by the Israeli military which has claimed many civilian lives”, the release added.
