VSO no longer operating in Guyana

The Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) will no longer be providing services to Guyana, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon announced yesterday.

Luncheon announced that the agreement between the development group and the government was terminated at the behest of the organisation, which informed government that it will no longer be providing services to Guyana.

Luncheon told a press briefing that Cabinet agreed to terminate the agreement and has since agreed to accept a request by Cuso International, a parallel organisation with the same aim and objectives as VSO, to execute a similar agreement. “Cuso International will essentially be replacing the VSO with the provision of the same skills in the social sector.”

The VSO has provided services in the areas such as health, disability, education and economic development.

Luncheon did not disclose why VSO wanted the agreement terminated.
