Salim Bacchus called ‘Black Salim’ of 139 Line Path ‘D’, Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court yesterday after being charged with the murder of Police Constable 20682 Jirbahan Dianand on September 14, 2012, police said.
He was remanded to prison until December 06, 2012, when he will appear at Springlands’ Magistrate Court, the police said.
Dianand, a narcotics cop, was shot twice, a post-mortem examination revealed and investigators were working with the theory that he knew his killer.
The dead constable’s father, “Dutchie” Dianand, had told Stabroek News that his son was shot to his forehead and below his left ear.
Dianand had been gaining a reputation over drugs busts he made and his ability to find drugs hidden in vehicles.
He was found in his car by passers-by on the public road at Jackson Creek, Corentyne around 5.30 am. Dianand was found face down in the driver’s seat of his tinted burgundy vehicle.
Police Commissioner Leroy Brumell had described the location as a lonely road, raising questions as to what the young policeman was doing in that area at that hour.
