Oriley Small, charged with the robbery of two persons at gunpoint in Charlestown, was yesterday granted $100,000 bail.
Small, 27, of Lot 6 Ketley Street, Charlestown, denied the charge when he was brought before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
He is accused of robbing Sydney Robinson of a shoulder bag, a cellular phone and cash, amounting to $110,000 in total, on November 7, while being armed with a gun. It was also alleged that he robbed Christopher Anthony of a BlackBerry smartphone valued $80,000.
The Chief Magistrate was told that the robbery occurred at about 12:10am, when the complainants were walking in Charlestown. They were allegedly approached by Small and two other men, who pointed a gun at them and relieved them of their possessions.
The robbery was reported to police and Small was later identified from an identification parade, the court heard.
But Small’s lawyer, Adrian Thompson, told the court that his client was picked up by the police on a different allegation and was never identified by anyone.
Thompson further noted that Small had a previous conviction for having unlawful possession of a firearm.
The prosecution had no objections to bail.
The case was adjourned until November 30, when it is to be called for report and fixtures.
