Shurdai Khodia, who was attacked on Wednesday by a masked man who beat her and burned her house down, is now complaining of feeling terribly sick due to the injuries she suffered as a result of the attack.
Her sister, Surika Khodia, told this newspaper yesterday that her sister visited the doctor yesterday and is now on a seven-day treatment due to the internal injuries she sustained.
The woman and the other members of her family are now staying with her sister until they find another home.
Khodai, who said she was unaware of the motive behind the attack, had told Stabroek News that a masked man attacked her while she was in her home alone.
The man then beat her and doused her with kerosene from the stove but she managed to get away from him before he set the house alight.
Khodai, her husband, four children, and her parents were the occupants of the one-flat, two-bedroom house, which belonged to her in-laws.
The fire was started around 10 am and New Hope residents said that fire-fighters responded about 45 minutes later, by which time the structure had already been flattened.
