Shurdai Khodia, who was attacked on Wednesday by a masked man who beat her and burned her New Hope house down, is now feeling better and is recovering from the injuries she suffered as a result of the attack.
She is now feeling less pain but is still on the seven-day treatment her doctor recommended on account of the internal injuries she sustained.
Her sister, Surika Khodia, had said that the woman and the other members of her family are now staying with her until they find another home.
Khodai, who said she was unaware of the motive behind the attack, had told Stabroek News that a masked man attacked her while she was in her home alone.
The man then beat her and doused her with kerosene from the stove but she managed to get away from him before he set the house alight.
Khodai, her husband, four children, and her parents were the occupants of the one-flat, two-bedroom house, which belonged to her in-laws.
The fire was started around 10 am and New Hope residents said that fire-fighters responded about 45 minutes later, by which time the structure had already been flattened. No one was arrested in connection with the crime as yet but investigations are ongoing.
