Queen Street Tiger Bay, West Front Road, Leopold Street and High Street Tiger Bay clinched quarterfinal berths in the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Competition at the Banks DIH Car Park, Saturday night.
Queen Street defeated Stevedore Housing Scheme one-nil, West Front Road edged South Ruimveldt two-one, Leopold Street trounced Albouystown A, three-nil on penalties and High Street Tiger Bay defeated Alexander Village one-nil to move closer to the $600,000 first prize.
Deon Alfred’s strike in the 20th minute for Queen Street was enough for the victory against Stevedore Housing Scheme while Randolph Wagner’s double (17th and 26th minutes) put paid to the hopes of South Ruimveldt. Colin Daniels (27th minute) scored for South Ruimveldt.
Solomon Austin’s extra time goal (32nd minute) propelled Hope Street Tiger Bay to the quarterfinals.
There were also four exhibition games Saturday night in which Guinness Bar, Clippers Barbershop and Upper Level Barbershop were victorious. In the other game, Banks DIH Limited drew one-all with GT All Stars.
Guinness Bar won by walk-over versus the Media, Clippers Barbershop defeated Oasis O, two-nil with goals coming off the boots of Timothy Telford in the fourth minute and Jermaine White three minutes later. Upper Levels Barbershop needled YMCA, one-nil, thanks to E. Moses’ 11th minute strike.
Meanwhile, four more teams will have a chance to book their place in the quarterfinals tomorrow night at the East Ruimveldt Basketball Court.
East Front Road will tackle North La Penitence, Globe Yard will take on Sophia B, defending champions, Back Circle will face Bent Street and Broad Street B will go up against East La Penitence.
There will also be four exhibition games. In the first game Banks DIH Limited will face YMCA followed by Guinness Bar versus Oasis, Clippers Barber Shop versus Media and Upper Level Barber Shop versus Sweet Hand.
Action kicks off at 19:30hrs.
