The body of a miner was found yesterday morning on a trail at Danjou Hill, Mahdia with what appeared to be stab wounds to the head.
Dead is Robert Prescott, 59, of 114 Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara.
Police, in a press release, said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding Prescott’s death, after his body was found with suspected stab wounds to the back and front of his head. According to the police, the murder occurred at about 7am on Monday.
However, the dead man’s daughter, Diane Prescott, yesterday told Stabroek News that the family was only informed of the man’s death yesterday morning and she and other family members were led to believe that the body was only discovered yesterday.
“We heard early this morning about 8 o’ clock… His boss man call we and said they find de body on de trail this morning,” the woman related.
She further stated that the family has had no contact with the police as the matter is being handled by the Mahdia Police Station. Asked whether her father had any problems with anyone, the woman responded in the negative, saying that she could not speak of any suspect/s.
Prescott told this newspaper that her father has been working as a gold miner in the interior for many years. She stated that his body will be brought to the city today and a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted some time subsequent to that.
The man’s daughter said she last saw him when he went home in August this year.
Prescott is survived by eight children.
