KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC-Jamaica’s leading cricketers, Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, have not been included in a 14 man squad named for the Caribbean Twenty/20 tournament next year.
Gayle and Samuels have been contracted to play in Australia’s Big Bash T20 tournament, which will take place simultaneously with the regional tournament.
Jamaica has named West Indies under 19 youth cricketer John Campbell and national under 19 player Aldane Thomas in their 14 man squad.
Campbell, an opening batsman, who recently represented the West Indies at the Youth World Cup, scored 51 for Ocho Rios Chargers in the JPL Twenty/20 over the weekend.
Thomas doubles as a wicketkeeper-batsman.
Longtime skipper and allrounder Tamar Lambert remains at the helm while medium pacer David Bernard Jr, is the vice-captain.
The squad also includes André Russell, Danza Hyatt, Nikita Miller, Nkrumah Bonner and Krishmar Santokie who have all garnered international experience playing for West Indies.
The rest of the players are André McCarthy, Jamie Merchant and Yannick Elliott, who recently played at national Under-19 level as well as Odean Browne, and high performance player Sheldon Cotterel.
The Caribbean Twenty/20 will be played in Trinidad and Tobago and St. Lucia in January.
