Four teams including defending champions, Back Circle who trounced Bent Street, five-nil, clinched quarterfinal berths Tuesday night in the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Competition at the Banks DIH Car Park.
Broad Street, East Front Road and Sophia B were the other teams that booked quarterfinal places and moved closer to the $600,000 first prize.
A double by Dexter Bentick (third and seventh minutes) and strikes off the boots of Wayne Wilson (16th minute), Vincent Thomas (17th minute) and Leon Murray (27th minute) put paid to the hopes of Bent Street of qualifying for the next round.
Broad Street defeated East La Penitence, five goals to two, East Front Road edged North East La Penitence one-nil while Sophia B downed Globe Yard, two-nil.
Daniel Favourite’s double (sixth and 21st minutes) coupled with strikes by Jimmy Gravesande (ninth minute) Rocky Gravesande (17th minute) and Kevin Griffith (28th minute) completed the victory for Broad Street.
The two goals scored by Devon Millington 11th and 14th minutes for East La Penitence were not good enough.
Joshua Kamal (seventh minute) and Akeem Jaikissoon (30th minute) teamed up to give Sohia B their victory while Vashile Cantzlaar’s extra time goal (31st) was all East Front needed to qualify for the quarterfinals.
The other four teams in the quarter final round which will kick off on Saturday at the same venue are Queen Street Tiger Bay, West Front Road, Leopold Street and Hope Street Tiger Bay.
Saturday night, Leopold Street will tackle Hope Street Tiger Bay, Broad Street B will take on Sophia B, Back Circle will face East Front Road and West Front Road will go up against Queen Street Tiger Bay.
Kick off time is 19:30hrs.
Meanwhile, there were also four exhibition games on Tuesday night in which Guinness Bar, Clippers Barbershop, YMCA and GT All Stars were victorious.
Guinness Bar won three-nil against Oasis O, Clippers Barbershop demolished Quite Set Car Wash, seven-nil, YMCA defeated Banks DIH Limited, three-nil and GT All-Stars needled Upper Level Barbershop, one-nil.
