Led by an all-round performance by Lorenzo Duesbury, Marketing and Distribution (M&D) romped to a 33-run victory in the finals of the Neal and Massy Inter-Company 10-over Tapeball Cricket Tournament on Sunday.
Duesbury, who was named Man-of-the-Match, blasted 45 runs, including four sixes and two fours, to lead his team to a total of 91-5. He later grabbed two wickets with the ball to help restrict Essequibo Branch to 58-9, a press release from Neal and Massy said.
Duesbury was supported by Ariel Khan, who bagged three wickets for seven runs and Bryden Maniford, who took two wickets.
M&D, the release noted, had edged past defending champions AINLIM by eight runs in their semi-final match.
M&D, who batted first, managed 69-5 from their 10 overs, with Shridatt Persaud top scoring with 28. Ashraf Ali took two wickets for 11 runs for AINLIM, who fell short in their reply at 61 for 6. AINLIM Chief Executive Officer Lakenarine Shivraj top scored for his team with 15.
In the other semi-final match, Essequibo Branch had defeated NMSS by five wickets. NMSS batted first and scored 67-9 but it was not enough as Essequibo managed 71. K. Persaud scored 19 runs for Essequibo, while R Lall took two wickets for four runs.
NMSS had earlier earned its semi-final berth by thumping Bermudez by 10 wickets in their quarter-final match. Bermudez were restricted to 32-6 and NMSS managed to get home without loss. Mark Smith, who took two wickets for two runs, later struck an unbeaten 26 for NMSS.
