A 22-year-old father of one was killed yesterday when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck on the Public Road at Cullen, Essequibo Coast.
Leroy Adams of Little Red Village, Sandpit Essequibo Coast, died on the spot while his pillion rider, Leandra Gudge sustained a broken leg.
According to information that was relayed to the police, the driver of the truck GLL 4915, Anand Ram Jankey was said to be proceeding south along the Cullen Public Road, while Adams and Gudge, who were on motor cycle CC 5652, were proceeding north.
There were no details as to exactly how the accident occurred, but persons who were close to the scene said that Adams was not wearing a helmet and as a result sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. Gudge, meanwhile, is currently a patient at the Suddie Public Hospital. Radha Adams, mother of Leroy Adams said she was standing on the Public Road at Land of Plenty with her daughter some time around 3 pm, when she received news that her son had been in an accident.
“We were standing on the road, just after we came out of the supermarket when a driver called and said your son was involved in an accident,“ Radha related.
She added that the driver didn’t break the news of the death of her son to her at first as he had told her that her son’s condition was not serious.
Mrs Adams said Leroy worked in the interior and had recently bought the motorcycle. She said he left his Sandpit home around 9 am yesterday with a friend and was heading for the coast.
The father of a one leaves to mourn a one-month-old baby and his wife Julie John. Mrs Adams lamented her third of five children had supported her financially, although he had a family.
