Two local teams GCC and Hikers will today contest the final of the Veterans category of the Diamond Mineral Water Indoor Hockey Tournament at the National Gymnasium.
In the semi-finals played yesterday, GCC defeated Malvern of Trinidad by a 3-1 margin. Scoring for GCC were Devin Hooper in the 11th minute, Philip Fernandes in the 12th and Peter Jones in the 19th. Ralf Watson scored for Malvern in the 21st minute.
In the Hikers/Old Fort matchup, Timothy Jonas in the 7th minute, George Melville in the 14th and Tristan Gomes in the 19th were the scorers for Hikers. Ivor Thompson and Gavin Hope scored for Old Fort in the 11th and 22nd minutes.
Meanwhile, in the third Veterans match, Carib lost to Fatima 0-4. Shawn Ming in the 8th minute and three from Dean Nigels in the 8th, 11th and 27th minutes, were Fatima’s goal scorers.
In the ladies’ matches, Toronto Academy (Canada), Magnolias and GCC were victorious. In the first match, the Canadians defeated their Trinidadian counterparts Malvern by a 3-1 margin.
Malvern, however, in their second game of the day defeated Hikers by a 7-3 margin.
Toronto Academy’s second game proved to be their toughest as they came from behind to tie their match against the Magnolias 5 all.
Defending champions GCC defeated their Trinidadian counterparts Malvern by a 4-0 margin. Kerensa Fernandes in the 5th and 40th minutes, Ashley DeGroot in the 20th minute and Trisha Woodroffe in the 34th minute, scored for GCC.
In the lone men’s encounter of the day, Renegades were defeated by GCC by a 6-2 margin. Two goals from Kevin Spencer in the 7th and 27th minutes, two goals from Devin Hooper in the 17th and 25th minutes, Steven Xavier in the 25th minute and Orland Semple in the 39th minute, brought up GCC’s
total. While, Shane Samuels in the 17th and 32nd minutes scored for the Renegades.
