ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – West Indies off spinner Shane Shillingford grabbed 10 wickets and opening batsman Tyron Theophille slammed a century as hosts Dominica defeated Grenada by an innings and 10 runs in the opening round of the Windward Islands Championship here Saturday.
Resuming on 11 overnight with Dominica on 13 for two, Theophille cracked 16 fours and one six in a knock of 114 as Dominica reached 249 for five declared on the second and final day at Windsor Park.
Theophille was ably assisted by Junior Jervier, who hit an unbeaten 57 and Kevin James who scored 43.
Out-of-favour Windies pacer Nelon Pascal was the pick of the bowlers taking three for 38.
Grenada, who scored 161 on Friday’s opening day, were then bowled out for 78 with Shillingford claiming six for 38 to finish with a match haul of 10 for 89.
Ray Casimir took two wickets for two runs and Liam Sebastien finished with two for 16.
At Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines played to a no-result in a match which was badly affected by inclement weather.
St. Lucia batted first and scored 74 all out with Keddy Lesporis top scoring with 40, as left-arm spinner Alston Bobb took five for 17 and fast bowler Dellon Charles, two for 13.
At the close, SVG were 61 for eight after being undermined by seamer Xavier Gabriel with five for 24 and off-spinner Alex Antoine, who took three for 21.
When the second round resumes on Sunday, Dominica will take on St. Vincent at Windsor Park while Grenada and St Lucia clash at Benjamin’s Park.
