An East La Ruimveldt clothes vendor was yesterday accused of chopping another man to the head after a misunderstanding.
Lawrence Cecil, 48, of Lot 222 East Ruimveldt, was released on $250,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after he was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge of unlawful wounding.
Cecil pleaded not guilty to the charge, which is based on the allegation that on November 17, in East La Penitence, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm upon Olanza Tuesday.
Prosecutor Mavis Grant stated that the two men, who are known to each other, had a misunderstanding, which led to a heated argument, during which Cecil dealt a chop to Tuesday’s head, causing him injuries.
Grant noted that Tuesday was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was given a medical testimonial. Cecil was subsequently arrested and charged.
Grant had no objections to bail but asked that Cecil lodge his passport and report to the East La Penitence Police Station every Friday at 8am.
The magistrate set bail with the condition requested by the prosecutor. The case has been adjourned until January 14, 2013, when it will be called for reports and fixtures.
