Minister of Natural Re-sources and the Environment Robert Persaud says Guyana will continue discussions with Colombia on collaborating on mutual challenges in the areas of environmental management in the extractive industries.
A press release said Persaud engaged in discussions with Colombia Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Juan Gabriel Uribe, during the recent regional consultations for Latin America and the Caribbean in preparation for the fifth session of the Inter-governmental Negotiating Committee on Mercury in Colombia.
Noting Guyana’s progress in sustainable forest management, Uribe expressed an interest in Guyana’s Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) efforts which may be applicable to Colombia’s forest management initiatives.
