A football player was yesterday accused of breaking the jaw of a man who tried to prevent him from carrying out a robbery.
Omalo Williams, of Lot 83 Leopold Street, pleaded not guilty to a charge if inflicting grievous bodily harm when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Court 1 at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It was alleged that on November 27, Troy Garnett, the complainant, saw Williams and others trying to rob somebody. As a result, Garnett intervened and tried to stop them. Williams, the court was told, got annoyed and punched him to the right side of his jaw. Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry asked for the medical records, which confirmed that Garnett suffered a fractured jaw.
Williams was previously charged with armed robbery. However, the prosecution had no objections to bail, which was set at $75,000. The matter will continue in court 10 in December 17.
