Maida, Corentyne pensioner Saheed Hamid died from a shotgun wound, the police said yesterday.
A post-mortem examination was performed on the body of Hamid of Maida Farm, Corentyne by pathologist Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan on Monday.
The cause of death was given as shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries. The police said that several shotgun pellets were removed from the body during the post-mortem. Police said that investigations are continuing.
Hamid, 76, was fatally shot around 2:40 on Sunday morning when person/s invaded his yard. The man’s wife, Nazmoon Amin, 67, told Stabroek News that he appeared to have sustained a single gunshot wound to his chest.
Hamid, known as `Tulu’, who was bleeding profusely, collapsed and died as he was about to enter the kitchen in the lower flat.
Amin recalled that they both woke up just before the shooting and he opened the door and left to go down to use the washroom. The woman said she heard him asking someone, “what you doing in meh yard.”
Shortly after, she heard what sounded like the shattering of her light bulb. When she went downstairs to check, she heard her husband call for her “Naz” and he was trying to crawl into the kitchen but collapsed in front of the door.
