ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC- Defending champions St. Vincent and the Grenadines secured first innings points against host Dominica in their drawn second round encounter of the 2012 Windward Islands cricket tournament at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on Monday.
Dominica, resuming the second day on 96 for six, in response to 234 scored by the Vincentians, was bowled out for 120 with Dellorn Johnson finishing with five for 38.
Keron Cottoy claimed two for 23. Grayson Pacquette and Jerlani Robinson with 25 and 23 runs respectively were the top scorers for Dominica.
Trailing by 114 runs and asked to follow on, Dominica reached 216 all out with one of the mandatory 15 overs left. Kevin James top scored with a well played 50. Vivian Titre with 49 provided excellent support batting lower down the order. Captain Liam Sebastien got 39 and Elton Mark weighed in with 26.
Bowling for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Alston Bobb with eight for 68 from 37 overs was the pick of the bowlers for the defending champions. Kenroy Peters bagged two for35.
Over at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth, St. Lucia claimed first innings points over Grenada in their drawn encounter. Grenada batted first after being invited to do so and scored 160 all out. Devon Smith top scored with 51, Lindon Lawrence scored 30 and Keon George added 22.
Alex Antoine was the most successful bowler for St. Lucia, taking four for 49. Garey Mathurine finished with three for 29 and Dalton Pollius supported with two for 33.
In reply, Johnson Charles scored 35 as St. Lucia reached 169 all out, for an overall lead of nine runs. Charles was ably supported by Dalton Pollius who hit 31.
For Grenada, Denis George claimed seven for 62 and Josh Thomas bagged two for 42.
Batting a second time, Grenada reached 161 all out. Lindon Lawrence led the way with 54 and Devon Smith added 35. Keon George chipped in with 32.
Dalton Pollius was again among the wickets for St. Lucia, taking five for 35 and Garey Mathurine four for 64.
Set a victory target of 152, St. Lucia closed on 104 for six with Mervin Bell unbeaten on 38. For Grenada Nelon Pascal claimed three for 24 and Eamon Alexander took two for 21.
When the third and final round bowls of today, after Tuesday’s rest day, Dominica will take on St. Lucia at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium while Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines will do battle at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth.
Both matches are carded to begin from 9am.
After two rounds of matches, Dominica leads with 15 points, followed by St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Lucia with 10 points each. Grenada occupies the cellar position with 3 points.
