Three gunmen attacked a Bounty Meat Centre security officer on Tuesday night and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash he was transporting at the time.
However, police said a quick response led to the arrest of one of the suspects, who was held with a gun.
The attack occurred at about 6:50pm along Robb Street, Georgetown, when Vincent Da Silva, 61, was confronted by the men, who used a push cart to block the path of his car, PNN 2145, and then held him at gunpoint, police said in a statement yesterday.
The men then took away the cash and escaped in his car. Later, at about 7pm on Tuesday, the car was found abandoned at Stone Avenue, Campbellville.
At the time of the robbery Da Silva was armed with a .32 semi automatic Beretta pistol with matching ammunition.
A quick response by the police led to the arrest of a suspect, who was found in possession of an unlicensed .32 revolver with five matching rounds, police said. He is in police custody assisting with the in-progress investigations.
Stabroek News tried to contact Da Silva at his home and workplace to no avail.
