A woman lost her life after she was struck down by a truck on the Good Hope, East Coast Demerara public road yesterday morning.
Dead is Rajdai Beharry, 58, whose address is unknown. Beharry was walking along the road when she was hit by the truck. She was then rushed to the Georgetown Hospital by public-spirited citizens where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Efforts by this newspaper to make contact with Beharry’s relatives yesterday were unsuccessful.
According to the police, Beharry was walking along the road around 9:10am when the accident occurred. Police have been told that the driver of a canter truck, bearing registration number GPP 4465, was overtaking a car, bearing licence plate PLL 135, when he hit the woman down.
Eyewitnesses recalled hearing a loud impact, after which they saw Beharry lying on the corner of the road bleeding. They stated that she appeared as if she had passed out and persons began to soak her head with water to revive her but that did not work. She was then rushed to the Georgetown Hospital.
The police also stated that the drivers of the canter and the car are in custody assisting with the investigations.
