Dear Editor,
President Donald Ramotar in a recent address to the women’s arm of his party among other criticisms, attacked the erection of a monument to recognize approximately four hundred Guyanese who were killed extra-judicially in the early 2000s.
President Ramotar was reported to have referred to those deceased as criminals, but how could they be described as criminals, when they were not afforded their respective days in court? In any case, one should not speak evil of the dead, and President Ramotar as a national leader should not stir the pot of racial antagonism.
Editor, I take serious objection to Mr Ramotar’s expressions about the intentions behind the erection of the monument, because when I decided to invest in that structure, it was due to my determination to cherish the memories of those 452 persons who had perished during the phase of the extra-judicial killings that took place in the early 2000s within our beloved Guyana.
Editor, instead of President Ramotar attacking the monument that I built in Buxton, it might be better for his administration to appoint a commission of inquiry to investigate those extra-judicial killings which took place under the watch of the PPP/C.
