The student of Golden Grove Secondary School, who stabbed another student in the back with an ice-pick in the school yard after a gambling row, was suspended for his violent behaviour.
The school addressed the issue and suspended the attacker, Stabroek News was told yesterday.
Although the wounded teen, 16, has been cleared to return to classes, he will still be visiting the Enmore Health Centre for treatment until his injuries are healed.
The teen, of Haslington Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, was rushed to the health centre by teachers after he was stabbed last Thursday. He also sustained a gash to the head, where his assailant hit him using a cricket bat.
Students at the school stated that the teen’s attacker went home and collected the ice pick, which he used in the attack. The students also stated that the two boys were gambling during break time when it is alleged that one of them cheated the other, leading to a physical altercation.
