– CONCACAF to look at ending impasse
The world governing body for football, FIFA along with its Caribbean arm CONCACAF will move to end the impasse between the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Georgetown Football Association (GFA), a press release from Khalsan Public Relations Incorporated said.
According to the release, Alpha United’s President Odinga Lumumba had written to FIFA, CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) and the CFU (Caribbean Football Union) about his intention to form a third body to manage the affairs of football, since the GFF and the GFA failed to reach a solution. Lumumba was also seeking to have the new body recognised by FIFA.
However, CONCACAF in a response stated that Lumumba should not go ahead and form any third party, since moves were being made to bring all the parties involved together, with the hope of finding a solution.
“In view of the cited legal precepts and in earnest of the preservation of due process and hierarchical order in the administration of football in Guyana, we strongly recommend not proceeding with the intended course of action described in your sent correspondence,” CONCACAF’s response to Lumumba said.
CONCACAF said it was grateful to Lumumba. “We thank you for your profound concern in the current situation involving the Guyana Football Federation and the Georgetown Football Association and for your efforts in attempting to bring harmony to Guyanese football,” the letter from CONCACAF stated.
According the statement, Lumumba is expected continue with his petition drive in case mediation fails. The petition, according to Khalsan, has already received over 2,000 signatures.
