Speaking to Stabroek News, one of the occupants who asked for anonymity, related that the robbery happened in three minutes, around 1:15 am after they had held a farewell event for her mother who is migrating to the United States of America.
She further noted that while her mother and other relatives were asleep upstairs, she and four other persons were on the veranda of the house when she moved to make a phone call and saw one of the suspected bandits enter through the back gate.
She said that after raising an alarm two of the occupants on the front veranda came to investigate and one of the men placed a gun to one of the males while another jumped the front fence and proceeded into the yard.
She also stated that the men then entered the house, “I thought it was two but is after we end up in the house then we realize it was three a dem”.
She said that after they were brought into the house, one of the men asked “where the money deh” and she told them that they didn’t have any money, but could take whatever was within the house and go.
She said that one of the men then snatched a gold chain from the neck of one of her relatives and picked up her laptop which was in a chair in the living room.
During the commotion she said that the other occupant of the home awoke after which the bandits then searched the three rooms of the house but did not take anything, except a Coby Mp3 player which was in the third room.
She said that after the men realized that a female occupant had escaped the house, her 83 year-old grandfather was held by two of the men who had a knife to his neck and stomach threatening to kill him if the female who escaped didn’t return to the house.
She said that the men then made good their escape on foot, later being pursued by a cousin who was unable to give chase in his car due to the huge pot holes that the street has.
The items stolen from the house were, two BlackBerry Curves, one BlackBerry Torch, one Acer 20” laptop, one gold chain, two gold rings, one gold band, $5000 in cash and one Coby Mp3 player, all valued at $660,000.
She said that the matter was reported to the Turkeyen Police Station and no arrest to her knowledge has been made.
