Guyana and the US are to sign an air transportation agreement which will replace the one that has been in effect since 1946 via an agreement between Washington and the United Kingdom.
A release today from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the pact “will make it possible for airlines to offer the traveling and shipping public a variety of service options which will encourage individual airlines to develop and implement innovative and competitive prices.
“The Agreement will also liberalize the rules for international aviation markets and minimize government intervention as it applies to passenger, all-cargo and combination air transportation as well as scheduled and charter services.”
It said that the pact will replace the Agreement between the Governments of the United Kingdom and the United States of America relating to Air Services between their Respective Territories, signed in Bermuda, February 11, 1946.
The pact was to be signed tomorrow but this has now been deferred to a date to be announced.
