Dear Editor,
Three weeks after arresting robbers who were on their sixth attack on my premises by discharging a few rounds, the police have not apprehended one positively identified bandit or others suspects in other robberies.
This is the third time this individual was involved in robbing me and even committed the act at my son’s residence a few weeks ago. The deportee [name given] is a menace in the community, stealing almost nightly to satisfy his drug addiction. Every resident has lost something or the other. The policemen and women living in the village as well as the community police are seen often with this man, but there seems to be no interest in arresting him, even though he is wanted in other matters and also for not attending court.
I previously wrote about another villager wanted on another armed robbery who is seen everywhere, and is fearless of the police apprehending him as calls to the police produce no response. The common talk everywhere is that these guys have contacts. The police are vigorously chasing after traffic offenders.
Crime, especially armed robberies, in East Canje, Berbice will not decrease or end, for the majority of culprits are roaming freely. Some are detained briefly and realised to pounce again.
Yours faithfully,
M Sookraj
