A Mahaica cane cutter was decapitated yesterday morning after a GuySuCo truck ran over his head right after he disembarked the vehicle.
Up to press time last evening the driver was still in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Asraf Ali died on the spot after his head was crushed by the lorry around 05:45 hrs on the Enmore Estate Road. Asraf, known as Hassan, resided at 160 Manager Line Cane Grove, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
Lyken’s Funeral Home was subsequently called on the scene to remove the body. Ali’s sister said she was sleeping and was awakened by the news that her brother was involved in an accident.
“My niece call me and said aunty, Hassan at work and he get in an accident with the truck,” Magidan Brahwani said, adding that the news left her feeling empty and cold inside. “I din know that he de dead until my son call me and tell me. Dem ain’t wan show me the picture of he and what really happen cause my health bad,” she added with tears in her eyes.
It was reported that the driver of the lorry, GGG 6514, was reversing when Ali jumped off the front of the vehicle and fell under the wheel.
